Disguise
In this piece of disguise photography by Zohra Opoku there is a woman dressed in white who seems to be in the outside, however it is dark as the picture is in black and white. The composition depicts a tree which she is under that covers the top part of her face, leaving a shadow over her eyes which creates a sense of mystery . Only her torso and head are shown as its a close up image, and she is centered in the middle of the photograph that constructs order and simplicity. Also the quality of the image isn’t high, but it creates a slightly smooth texture. There is only black in the background and the woman is in the foreground which brings more attention to her. The atmosphere of this image symbolizes tragedy or sorrow which intensifies the audience’s interest further. This image is portrait, however this portrait is different since normally a portrait focuses on the face of the model and had vibrant colors to assist them, and in this photo there is minimal light that conveys a dullness, furthermore the models face is unknown which adds to this.

In Zohra Opoku's artwork and in this photograph, i believe that she wants to bring awareness to the political, historical and cultural influences for individuals and societal identities. For example in the topic of disguise, she chooses to hide the faces of the models to let the audience decide on who they are. Also the use of nature and fashion changes my previous idea of the picture as it conveys a delicate and sleek feeling, if i had created this image i would have chosen to keep the color as it would link in better with the topic and it gives it more life and character, other than that i would have done the same and i like how she doesn’t show emotion to give the audience more freedom on who they want the model to be.This photograph makes me feel many different things, the use of black and white which hides the models face depicts a mystery and the bleakness which expresses misery and regret. however the use of fashion and nature depicts a delicate touch and sophistication. And if i were to ask a question to Zohra it would be, what feeling did she want initially for the audience to feel about her picture? As there are a lot of different emotions given from this one image, it nearly confuses me on how to see it.
Practical work
I am going to take inspiration from Zohra's work by implementing nature in my photos, also i will be hiding the face of the model to represent disguise, i will only be taking photos with toros and head with the model being in the centre. Then i will have the model to be emotionless then i will use darkness as well and i will use different objects to cover his face, i will have around 10 photos too.
I have created 9 photos using the topic of disguise, this means that the face of the model used had to be covered in some sort of way, i took inspiration from Zohra Opoku, such as that iv'e used nature to act as a mask for the model, most the time the composition stays the same with him being in the centre and foreground. I also had the model have no emotion and in some places blur was used to have him stand out more. Then ive used light and dark pictures I tried to get a blank background to further replicate Zohra's work however i didn't have enough recourses to complete what i had imagined fully and i ran out of time before i could shoot more photos but i am still happy with the outcome as the photos are of high quality and they fit the topic.

I have used torso and head only and i have disguised the face well, i like how i've used nature to cover his face and that there is darkness used in right places. the red color is nice because it is different and the composition changes which makes it more lively and the color is good as red green and blue are the most common which i like.
